African drumming

From Bachelor trainee

I took my first class from an African master drummer when Kwazi Badu from Ghana was teaching in the basement of UCLA Ethnomusicology. Maezumi Roshi scheduled my Jukai for the evening of my last class with Kwazi Badu. I told him we would have to reschedule the Jukai.

Over the years I studied with several other teachers,  some of them at  Motherland Music (which moved from Culver City to Inglewood in 2011).  This is a list of instructors  I had lessons from.

In 1994 I saw a flyer for a Full Moon Drum Circle with Ayo Adeyemi. That began my major ongoing relationship with a teacher of African drumming.
