Sleep

From 2016-12 Psychiatry for insomnia etc.

I have had a lot of trouble sleeping during the course of my illness. At one point I even saw a psychiatrist for three sessions for anxiety. He of course prescribed medication. I intensely disliked the way the medicines disrupted the (hitherto under appreciated) balances of mental and emotional complexity. The medicines felt like a blunt sledgehammer when something like a fine surgical instrument was called for.

A week before my third and final visit to the psychiatrist, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche started his  series “The Sleep of Clear Light: How falling asleep with awareness can change your life” on Facebook Live. I started doing the practices and my sleep got better.

Two and a half years later I’m at a plateau about half way between how bad it was before I went to the psychiatrist and how good it was soon after I started the practices.
